We encourage you to advance your knowledge and engagement in Bookbinding. Here are some professional organizations and supply resources that will keep you connected.

AAB Resources

Bookbinding Student Zoom Group

AAB holds monthly Zoom meetings with presentations on various aspects of bookbinding and book and paper conservation. Students will also have the opportunity to present their projects and get feedback from the group. Students can join the bookbinding Zoom Group at any time by letting AAB know they are interested. There is no fee to participate.

Guild of Bookworkers

The Guild of Book Workers promotes interest in and awareness of the tradition of the book and paper arts by maintaining high standards of workmanship, hosting educational opportunities, and sponsoring exhibits. The Guild of Book Workers was founded in 1906 to “establish and maintain a feeling of kinship and mutual interest among workers in the several hand book crafts.” Among its early members are well-known artist-craft workers such as bookbinder Edith Diehl and printers and typographers W.A. Dwiggins and Frederic W. Goudy.

Society of Bookbinders

The Society of Bookbinders is a UK-based educational charity dedicated to the provision of education in the craft of traditional and contemporary bookbinding and related skills.

Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies

The Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies (FABS) is an international association of book collecting clubs. Members have access to the FABS Bindings Zoom Group. Sponsored by FABS, The Bindings Interest Group hosts discussions and presentations that share collections and information on bookbindings of all periods. Topics include, but are not limited to, history, design and aesthetics, innovation, materials, and craft techniques.

Hewit & Sons LTD – Skin Deep Newsletter

J. Hewit & Sons is a leather manufacturer in the UK that we source much of our leather and supplies from. They have wonderful resources on their website, including the newsletter Skin Deep and a showcase page for incredible work done by fine binders.

Miniature Book Society

The Miniature Book Society, Inc. (MBS) is an international, non-profit organization, chartered in 1983 in Ohio and incorporated in Delaware. Its purpose is to facilitate interest in all facets of miniature books by providing a forum for the exchange of information about them.

Fine Press Book Association

The Fine Press Book Association (FPBA) is an international organization promoting the creation, study, and collection of contemporary book arts that aspire to the highest standards of craft and design. Membership is open to anyone interested in the book-related arts.

Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild

The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild supports, promotes, and seeks to inspire participation in traditional bookbinding and contemporary book arts. It does this through the efforts of its members and volunteers in providing high-quality book arts information, resources, education, and networking opportunities to the Canadian book arts community and the interested public.

College Book Arts Association

CBAA supports and promotes academic book arts education by fostering the development of its practice, teaching, scholarship and criticism.

American Institute of Conservation

We have been working for more than 50 years to advance the preservation and conservation of cultural heritage.

IADA – International Association of Book and Paper Conservators

IADA connects professionals worldwide in the conservation and preservation of cultural heritage, with a focus on books and paper, and encourages lifelong learning.

Harmatan & Oakridge Leather supply

Harmatan was established in the early 1980s to supply the finest quality vegetable-tanned goatskins and offer smooth-grained calf skins for bookbinders.

Hewit & Sons LTD

Talas

Established in 1962 by Elaine and Herbert Haas, Talas became the first company in the United States to serve the museum and library community with hand bookbinding and conservation supplies.

Colophon Book Arts Supply

Colophon Book Arts Supply is owned and operated by Mary Uthuppuru in Bloomington, Indiana. It is primarily an online retail store serving the unique and widespread book arts community, from beginning students to advanced professionals who practice, teach, and study bookmaking by hand.

Hollander’s is a book arts supply store in Michigan, founded in 1991.

Mombelli

In 1990, Franco Mombelli founded Atelier Mombelli in Solothurn, Switzerland. He sells tools and is also a bookbinder who creates and restores books.
